Healthsites
Building a free, curated, canonical source of healthcare location data.
Description
Kartoza developed this application in collaboration with Mark Herringer to support the capture and management of a global health facility dataset.
“Our company healthsites.io in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières publishes health care location data. All project work needed to be of the highest quality, which is what we get with Kartoza. I enjoyed the Agile development methodology and daily communications which built a team spirit that gave the project the energy it needed. Kartoza understand the high standards that we require are most efficient in delivering high quality working software. I would highly recommend working with them.”
Mark Herringer - healthsites.io Director”
As architectural lead for the project, Kartoza took some interesting approaches to the development of Healthsites.io, for example by using OpenStreetmap as the canonical data store and then leveraging various technologies we have developed such as docker-osm which provides a concurrent mirror of OpenStreetMap.org for a filtered set of features and attributes. As data are captured on Healthsites.io, they are immediately submitted to OpenStreetMap via their API and then mirrored into the local PostgreSQL database.
